Simple drawing of Ariel ^^
Drawing water is sooosdjfjskdflsl problematic. I knew it's hard but like that? My God. I really admire people who can do it.

Aaaah, Ariel looks so lovely here! The artstyle here is really nice, and you did a great job with the coloring and proportions.

Hey there! I came here from ProjectComment.

I do like the soft tones and coloring you used on this piece. The rock drawing and shape does look quite good and realistic. The little white flower over the rock is a delicate detail, and I almost wish you had added more flowers like this to the rest of the drawing. I probably do think like this because I'm the kind of artist that can't leave no tiny blank space on their pieces, and fulfill everything with details; maybe you could've colored the sky. But I'll stop talking about these things, these are just my opinions about general composition. Here are my so-called constructive appointments:

- At the top of her head and above her shoulders, her hair does look full and voluminous, but then, at the middle of the lenght, this volume is reducted drastically, becoming a singular hair strip. Usually hair does get sparse progressively within the lenght; maybe you didn't wanted to draw too much hair so it wouldn't cover her back, but I think you could've fulfilled it a bit more before the tips of her hair.

- At the first glance, anatomy does look ok, but take a closer look to her waist and the beggining of her tail. Her torso is turned to the front, but her tail is resting on a totally different angle, to the side. Try to imaginate it as legs to make it clearer. She probably wouldn't be able to turn her torso in such position, you see? Also, usually the first part of an arm is longer than the forearm.

These are not really noticeable things, thought, I had to look at your piece a lot to find something I could critique. I'm sorry if my appointments do sound redundant or something like this, and I hope I was able to help with something...

Hi, I'm here on behalf of ProjectComment

I've always been a big fan of Ariel!
Yes I agree water can be painful. I might try more random curve lines and splash droplets to make it look better! As water is always flowing and irregular.
Liked how you did Ariel's hair, however I think you add more shading and lighting on it so it will look more shiny and 3 dimensional.
The shape of her tail is nicely done! So I think the next thing to do it's to add more texture and shading into it
The rock that she's sitting on. I can't complain about it. I'm horrible at drawing backgrounds and nature. You did a good job.
The angle of Ariel's body is very accurate. However I do think might need some more work on the proportion. (I know they don't usually fits anyway but like I think shoulder could be a bit broader to make it more balance with her tail)

So to sum up, we will need to practice body proportion, texture and shading on characters. All you need is to see more art and keep practicing. In terms of water/Nature, I usually zoom in real close up to look into details and colours and figure out how I can use colouring skills to re-create those effect. It will take some time but we gotta start somewhere!

Hope there comments helped! :)

Yes, water is hard to render, but how you traced the colours and combined the tones really makes the whirlpool effect very realistic and moving, so I think you still did a pretty good job.

Wow I googled yours supplies and I am impressed, actually I've been using just Bic crayons for a year I think xD I bought them when I didn't draw too much. But I am thinking about something more.. proffesional xD Are you satisficted with Faber-castell?

Yeah, they're a bit expensive (then again anything is to me, im broke.. >_<) but the quality of them is nice. If you're just looking for coloring tools like crayons or colored pencils, I think Prismacolors are better. Prismacolor Premier colored pencils are my favorites, they sell for about $30-40 a box. They're really tall pencils and easy to sharpen, so they last a long time and sharpen within a few seconds.

Blargh I talk too much.
